Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way

This summer my husband and I travelled to Ireland for the first time. Overall we really enjoyed the friendly people, quality live music at pubs, fresh seafood, fabulous B&Bs and relaxed atmosphere.

While narrow windy roads can be charming, it can also be a bit nerve-racking for foreign drivers. Aside from a couple of main freeways, all other roads feel like being off the beaten path. Often tall hedges grow on both sides of the road, so visibility is different on winding roads. Plus the road is shared with pedestrians and cyclists. Luckily, my husband did all the driving.

7 days, 6 nights and a lot of mileage. My favorite area I recommend and would love to go back to is West Cork vicinity. We covered these areas, starting in Dublin: Galway, Burren, Killarney, Dingle, West Cork, Kilkenny, Dublin.

Our 2 favorite B&Bs that we highly recommend:

Shearwater B&B, Union Hall in West Cork (Try to book directly through their website). One of only 4 B&Bs in this area. Quiet and residential location. Very close to the water. Perfect for those who want to be in a calm and quiet neighborhood with the locals while being next to the water. Good base to explore this south west end of Ireland.

Newlands Lodge, Newlands in Kilkenny. Huge room. Just several kilometers drive to Kilkenny town center. Quiet surroundings.

Pitstop along the coast between Galway and Burren. It is normal to see extreme low tide first half of the day along the west coast.

My favorite find in Ireland, Murphy's ice cream. Luckily, they have several locations in Ireland and I tried 3. Light, fresh, not too sweet. The sorbets are packed with flavor.
